Severe Thunderstorm Watch - July 20, 2023

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for our area until 8 p.m. Please see the official advisory below and visit www.weather.gov for additional details.

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Central and Southern Lower Michigan
Lake Erie
Lake Huron
* Effective this Thursday afternoon and evening from 1220 PM
until 800 PM EDT.
* Primary threats include...
-Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2.5 inches in diameter likely
-Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely
-A tornado or two possible
SUMMARY...Thunderstorms will intensify this afternoon along and ahead of an approaching cold front. Supercells capable of very large hail and damaging winds are possible. A tornado or two might also occur.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 80 statute miles east and west of a line from 45 miles north of Bad Axe MI to 20 miles southwest of Jackson MI.

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
