The City of Plymouth Department of Municipal Services has a salt crew currently working on the city's major streets and parking areas. Snow started falling around 4:00 a.m. and as of 8:00 a.m. all major streets such as, Main Street, Starkweather, Ann Arbor Trail and Penniman have been salted. Major Roads should be considered snow and slush covered at this time. Allow extra time to get to your destination. Remember "Snow Equals Slow." Temperatures are now approximately 20f in the city and crews are using a road salt and brine solution which helps activate the road salt at lower temperatures. Residential side streets are snow covered with ice.
County Roads around the city are snow covered as of 8:00 a.m. Traffic on Ann Arbor Road is running at approximately 35 M.P.H. Plymouth Road is snow covered and slick, especially on the hills between Mill Street and Haggerty Road. Sheldon Road is moving slowly and is snow covered and slick. The M-14 Freeway is slowly moving from Beck Road through the I-275 interchange. Use extreme caution in this area.
City Municipal Services crews are also responding to two water main breaks in the city. One break is on Ann Arbor Trail near Main Street. Drivers should expect the closure of Ann Arbor Trail between Main Street and Union/Deer as crews open up the roadway to access the water main. The second water main break is on Beech Street between McKinley and Harvey. Drivers should expect some traffic re-routing in this area as crews begin work on this water main break. The city's water system remains safe and secure as the system remains fully pressurized.
