City Municipal Services Prepares for Storm
Published on Jan 22, 2024 12:15

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for our area starting at 7:00 p.m.  The Weather Service is predicting a package of mixed precipitation to include up to two-tenths of an inch of ice and upwards of two inches of snow. They are expecting the storm to start with freezing drizzle (ice) in the early evening.

As a result of the Weather Service issuing the Winter Weather Advisory, the Department of Municipal Services is currently applying a brine mix the city's major streets and municipal parking lots. The purpose is to help put a barrier on the streets to help prevent the initial bonding of ice and snow to the streets.

City Municipal Services crews are also working to treat residential side streets with either rock salt or the brine solution during the day today. Crews will also be on-call during the evening and overnight hours in the event that road conditions worsen as predicted by the Weather Service.

If you do go out tonight, please be sure that you have an ice scraper in your car and use caution when driving. Bridges, overpasses and elevated surfaces will freeze first and vehicles will need extended stopping distance.
