First Responders from the City Department of Municipal Services are continuing their efforts to respond to today's snow event. The City has received approximately 3+ inches of snow, with the majority of it starting at 3:00 a.m. Major streets were treated in the overnight hours. Currently, crews are using a road salt and brine solution as they plow and salt the Major Streets. Drivers should use caution when driving. Major Streets in the city are becoming slush covered as the brine and salt works together to break the bond of the snow and ice on the roadways. The use of liquid brine along with road salt allows the road salt to be more effective at lower temperatures. In Plymouth right now it is reported as 13f with a wind chill effect of -6 degrees.
All sidewalks in the downtown business district have been cleared and have been treated with a deicing material. Access to all businesses is available.
Residential side streets are snow covered and slick. Residents and businesses are reminded not to blow, push or shovel snow into the streets as this is a violation of City Ordinance and it could create liability issues for the property owner.
Drivers are reminded of a new State Law that requires that drivers keep a distance of 200 feet from any City Plow/Salt Truck that is working and has its emergency warning lights on. Police will be monitoring traffic in and near snow plows/salt trucks.
