City Road Conditions as of 5:45 a.m.
Published on Jan 21, 2025 06:03
During the overnight hours the City of Plymouth has received a very light dusting of snow. Roads have a coating of snow and possible "black ice." At this time the temperature is 2F/-17C without factoring in the wind.
Drivers are urged to use caution and leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you as you may hit a slick spot. Elevated surfaces such as bridges, overpasses, and the Central Parking Deck may be slippery, even after being treated with a deicing material, this is due in part to being an elevated surface.
Road salt is not as effective at these low temperatures, which is why the Department of Municipal Services uses a mix of liquid brine and road salt on road surfaces. With the extreme low temperatures this mix of brine and salt will help the deicing materials to be more effective. However, the roadway may refreeze quickly even after being treated.
The Plymouth Canton Community Schools are closed due to the temperatures. City Offices are all open as scheduled.
