Pursuant to the laws of the State of Michigan, notaries
acting on behalf of the City of Plymouth are witnessing your signature on a
document. The Notary does not verify the accuracy or legality of the document
being signed.

- Notarize
documents for signers who are physically present and can be properly
identified. Do not pre-sign your documents.
- Confirm
the identity and signature of all individuals against a valid
government-issued photo identification card (i.e. driver’s license or
state ID).
- Notarize
documents written in English only.
- Notarize
complete documents, which shall not contain blanks or missing information
or pages.
- Notarize
documents with the signer’s signature and notary block on the same page
(i.e. not on the back or a separate page).
- Notarize
only ‘original’ documents bearing the signer’s original, wet-ink signature
(not a photocopy or fax of a signed document)

- Notarize
a document without witnessing a signature.
- Notarize
copies of passports, I-9 forms, closing paperwork, financial documents, life
insurance documents, trusts, wills, deeds or retirement fund allocations.
- Notarize
any vital records, including photocopies, out of state documents, birth
certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, power of attorney,
and US Immigration and Naturalization paperwork.
- Notarize
documents that make a claim regarding or purports to affect citizenship,
immunity, allegiance to a government or jurisdiction, sovereignty, or any
related matter.
- Be
responsible for reviewing content of the paperwork presented or executing
documents (ex.: mortgage documents should be taken to a bank or mortgage
company).
- Certify
copies of documents or notarize that a record is an original or true copy
of another record. If you need a ‘certified true copy’ of a document, you
must go to the place of origin to obtain it.
- Certify
that a statement is true or certify documents attesting that you are a
citizen, are alive, etc. (i.e. Right of Life).
- Notarize
documents that are pre- or post-dated.
- Perform
a notarial act electronically.
We reserve the right to refuse to notarize any document.
